2023 reflections
It’s time for a break!
It feels like every year is a big one and like so many people I am ready for that break. Before I do, it is worth reflecting on the good, the bad and ugly changes in 2023:
WORDS: 2 new words of the year were added to our vocab which may never see the light of day for some of us – Rizz and Cozzie Livs.
WEATHER: Climate change has hit us well and truly in the face. It astounds me how some people are still denying it is real.
WAR: No words can express the absolute tragedy continuing to unfold in the Ukraine & Gaza.
THE VOICE: In Australia, some of us are still recovering for the ‘no’ outcome and waiting to see what happens next for our First Nation people.
ECONOMY: Many of us felt the sting if interest rate hikes and hold our breaths and wallets hoping for respite in 2024.
WORK: Just as we felt we were recovering from lockdowns, the push (or shove) to come back to the office kicked in.
On a personal note, it was a year of changes for me as well:
Completed a significant change project involving 2 significant office moves with new ways of hybrid working across 2 states with outstanding engagement scores of 87% despite a number of curve balls and a bumpy start
Supported 5 other diverse streams of work (ESG, Employee Experience, DEI, Operational Excellence) to kick their change management & communication goals for the year laying solid foundation for ongoing work
Left my LinkedIn Lurker status behind me to receive status of Top Voice in Change Management
Started writing about change and did my first LI article as a collaboration exercise
Expanded my network and met some amazing people to find new hero’s
Starting my coaching practice and developed my unique coaching practice and getting great feedback
Decided to get serious and move from side gig and start my own thought leader practice called Change with Mel
Made a commitment to read 1 - 2 books a month to expand my thinking and knowledge in change, neuroscience , coaching and self-management
Found my tribe who are in various stages of building their own practice
I am incredibly grateful for all that the year has delivered. Wishing everyone a peaceful period to rest up, re-energise and be well ready for 2024.
